MINISTRY OF HEALING & WHOLENESS

Jesus said; Heal the sick…..Luke 10 v 9

Holy Trinity Church, Milton Regis follows the teaching of Jesus.

We have a Healing & Wholeness Ministry team of 7 accredited lay ministers co-led by Ruth Brown and Jennie Chandler.

Our healing ministry includes:

  • the laying on of hands at public services;

  • the laying on of hands privately in people’s homes,
    e.g. sick communion, fellowship groups;

  • the taking of Holy Communion to Residential Homes for the elderly, and private homes for those who are sick and unable to attend church.

We believe:

  • we should  look, as a church, to our own need of healing;

  • this ministry should be recognised as being available to all within the congregation, not just the sick and distressed;

  • that all members have the gift of healing to offer, in the Name of Jesus, in its many forms:
    friendship
    listening
    acceptance
    reconciliation

The Healing team together with other members of the congregation have just completed a study of the Gospel of St.Luke, when a time of prayer has always been included.  It is planned to continue the weekly meetings with a study of the Acts of the Apostles.

In the past few years we have joined together, twice a year, with All Saints’ Church, Murston for a Service of Healing, with the anointing of oil.  This year, 2007, we are celebrating on the Feast Day of St. Luke, 18th October and it is hoped this will become an annual event.

The following is a quote from the report ‘A Time to Heal .’ copyright  permission received.

The Church’s ministry of healing is…

  • Visionary  -  because it beckons us towards the future and a glimpse of the kingdom – the hope of creation renewed in perfect health and wholeness.

  • Prophetic  -  because it calls us to reconsider our relationships with God, each other and the world and to seek forgiveness and a new start in our lives.

  • Dynamic  - because Jesus Christ is with us to the end of time.  When we pray for his help, he comforts, strengthens and heals us, responding to our deepest needs.

A Time to Heal’ is the first report from the Church of England on the ministry of healing for over forty years.  This handbook, published in conjunction with the main report, provides information to support a common understanding of good practice, as well as guidelines for clergy and laity, and is available from Church House Publishing.  www.chpubishing.co.uk
